"Creativity is intelligence having fun." ~ Albert Einstein
If you don’t think you are very creative, think again. We all have a little creative monster inside of us screaming to be released.
Creativity isn’t limited to artists, musicians and authors. It comes in many shapes and sizes. Not all artists paint the same and not all seamstresses make the same kind of wedding dresses. The talent and gifts you have are beautiful and your creativity makes you unique.
We often hear the term "my creative juices are flowing", and lucky are those whose juices flow rapidly and freely. Unfortunately for some of us, there’s a plug in our creative stream...
... and the only thing flowing is the coffee, in hopes that the caffeine will kick start our brain into producing some sort of mind blowing piece of work.
If you fall into the latter category, fear not. You’re not alone. Creative blocks happen when we get so busy in our outside world that we lose touch with our inside world, our passion.
All is not lost. It’s easy to get those creative juices flowing again with these simple 6 steps.
1. Take a nature walk, alone.
This, hands down, is the absolute best way to get in touch with yourself and your passion again. Being in nature is great therapy.
When you are walking down a trail lined with tall lush trees, your senses come to life. The smells, the sounds, the sights, the feel of the clean air on your skin, and the serenity of it all is nothing short of amazing.
It is here that you will be able to cleanse your mind of your troubles and worries and open your mind to possibilities. Nature has a funny way of releasing negative energies that are trapped inside of you.
2. Listen to soothing music.
Soft classical music has a way of calming our minds and our souls. Do you prefer jazz or Zen like music? Then put that on instead.
It’s easy to lose ourselves in music and just feel the notes, the beats, and the rhythms. Grab a cup a tea, sit in your favorite comfy chair, close your eyes and tune it
. You’ll be surprised at what transpires.
3. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Let go of expectations. You already know you are a superstar creative being but what you forget is that you aren’t expected to perform 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
We all need a break. We all need to just chill and not put so much pressure on ourselves. Just because you don’t feel like being creative right at this very moment doesn’t mean you’ve lost your touch. Your touch will always be there, maybe even better tomorrow if you just chill out today. Give yourself a break.
4. Hang out with others that share your creative interests.
Going out with likeminded people can certainly get those juices flowing faster than the rush of Niagara Falls.
Spending time with family and friends is important for nurturing our hearts but hanging out with your creative type friends is exactly what you need to do at least twice a month, if not more.
Toss ideas around, keep an open mind and listen intently. Oftentimes, just the energy and the inspiration you will feel from your peeps will be enough to give you the motivation you need to get more creative.
5. Meditate.
Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, breathe in, and breathe out. No better way to stimulate creativity then to free your mind of all the clutter that’s in there now.
Sometimes our heads get so full of ideas and complications that we tend to shut out everything else. Meditation is an easy way to free our minds of all that stored up junk and make room for our creative concepts.
6. Try something new.
- Ever played guitar before?
- How about oil painting?
- When was the last time you did a crossword puzzle?
When we challenge our minds to do something we’ve never done before, our thinking muscles wake up and get to work.
If we continue to do the same thing over and over without learning anything new, our brain will eventually end up feeling like it is on an assembly line. The brain must be exercised and challenged constantly. Try something new and your creative monster inside will be jumping for joy.
Exercise your brain, get more creative, try something new - like our Mind Power Hacking guided meditation collection that will help you develop your mind to its full potential.
Most importantly, never forget that you are not a machine. You are a person with a mind, soul and heart. If you are hitting a block, just remember, "This too shall pass".
